Believe it or not there were some birds today in our usual spot on Ylig bay.

Whimbrel - 4-6
Pacific Golden Plover - ~25
Ruddy Turnstone - 3-4
Sanderling - 1-2
Gray (Black-bellied) Plover - at least 1

Sorry for the lateness on this!

Our Hong Kong trip was Feb. 14-17 2012. We were trying not to be too ambitious, so we only planned for 1 or 2 activities per day and not a whole lot of intense birding - but we did see a lot of really great birds anyway!

A new year, a new birds list! Doubt I'll make it over 300 species like last year, but this year promises to hold lots of great new birds including a number of endangered species!

Our plan was to spend 3 days, 2 nights on Saipan. This should have been plenty of time to see all of the birds, however we were unlucky when it came to the 2 rarer species, the Micronesian Megapode and the Nightingale Reed Warbler. We never did manage to spot either of those species.

Over Thanksgiving ironpaw and I were on Rota - which is a tiny island about 15 minutes flight to the north of Guam.

We're back again! We only stayed in Manila/Quezon city this time, but I really want to go back and check out some of the other areas! There are about 200 ENDEMIC species of birds in the Philippines - that means they are ONLY found there. Many are found only on one island. There are hundreds of non-endemics as well, bringing the total species for ( Read more... )
